What is anxiety?

Anxiety is the intense and excessive fear, apprehension and worry about what’s to come. When anxious, a lot of thoughts enter our mind, and we end up feeling restless, nervous and troubled.

What are the symptoms of anxiety?

Short term symptoms

When we’re  anxious, the amygdala, the section of the brain that regulates emotions, is overexerted and hyperactive. Symptoms of anxiety include incessant worry, nervousness, restlessness, trouble focusing, along with an increased heart rate and breathing rate due to the adrenaline rush.

Long term symptoms

If you’re feeling anxious continuously and without respite, you may need professional intervention. If not regulated,  anxiety can lead to many mental issues like anxiety disorders, depression and dizziness. Your brain will release more cortisol, causing excessive headaches, tiredness, high blood pressure and higher chances of heart attacks.
